** Los Angeles, CA - Critically acclaimed producer and musician Terrace Martin announces Sounds of Crenshaw (SOC), a new label based in Los Angeles and connected to the Ropeadope family of labels. SOC Records reflects the history and energy of the Crenshaw District through the eyes of Martin. The label will take ALL of Martin’s influences and present a full reflection of a vibrant but sometimes overlooked LA scene.

“The Sound of Crenshaw is like a gumbo - it’s Crenshaw Blvd, it’s Maverick Flats - the Apollo of the West coast - with all the classics from R&B, Funk and Soul to Hip-Hop and Gangsta Rap. This was the whole scene of my generation, and the Sound Of Crenshaw is in everything I touch, from Kendrick to Herbie. So with SOC I’m gonna bring it all back and give y’all the whole package: 100% the Sound of Crenshaw” Martin expresses.

While working extensively as a producer, writer and musician on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy nominated To Pimp A Butterfly and juggling multiple projects (YG, 9th Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg), Terrace Martin has been carefully producing and recording his next solo album. VELVET PORTRAITS is scheduled for release on April 1, 2016 as the lead project on Sounds of Crenshaw. The first single “Valdez off Crenshaw” will be premiered on Beats 1 by Zane Lowe, and the album will be available for pre-order exclusively on Apple Music in the lead up to its release.

With an already amazing core band of Terrace Martin on sax, Curly Martin on drums, Brandon Eugene Owens on bass, and Robert ‘Sput’ Searight on Keys, Velvet Portraits also features appearances from Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway, Thundercat and many more.
